Wood burning stoves are up to 90% efficient at heating a room, safer than open fires, and can make a real difference to your household heating bills.

Ian Marshman, our company owner and stove installation specialist, can guide you through a wide range of stoves to suit your taste, budget and room. Once you’ve chosen your perfect stove, we’ll carry out a safe, expert installation.

We are proud to supply and install DEFRA approved Ecodesign stoves sourced from RW Knight & Son — beautiful, quality British stoves which we fit compliantly to the highest standard.

All our stove installations are fitted according to Document J of the Building Regulations and certified by HETAS (Heating Equipment Testing & Approvals Scheme).

Types of Stoves

The Key Components for Installing a Cosy Wood-Burner

The first step to warming your home with a wood-burner is to decide on the type of stove you fancy to enhance your décor.

Choose between:

Besides the stove itself (which must be a DEFRA-approved/Ecodesign stove) you’ll need:

A non-combustible hearth (stone, slate, concrete) that is usually 840mm x 840mm and at least 12mm thick, extending 225mm in front of the stove.

A flexible stainless steel chimney liner is often required for existing chimneys. For homes without a chimney, a twin-wall insulated flue pipe is necessary.

A metal Register plate that seals the bottom of the chimney to prevent heat loss and debris falling.

It’s also mandatory to fit a Carbon Monoxide alarm in the same room as the stove. Regulations & Compliance.

We can explain the requirements for safe, efficient stove operation and take care of all the elements needed to complete the installation in compliance with rules and regulations.

Safety & efficiency

Why Chimney Lining is Important

If you’re having a woodburner installed using an existing chimney it is essential to have the chimney lined with a flexible stainless steel flue, primarily to ensure safety and optimum efficiency.

A chimney liner acts as a sealed, heat and corrosion resistant passage to prevent deadly carbon monoxide leaks, reducing creosote build-up and protecting old chimney masonry from acidic condensation. A liner also ensures a proper “draw” for a brighter, cleaner burn.

At IJ Marshman, all our chimney lining work is carried out using 316 or 904 grade stainless steel liners, conforming to the highest safety standards. Whether you need a new liner fitted alongside a stove installation or a replacement for an existing one, no job is too big or too small.
